Clinical Perspectives on Speech Sound Disorders
On this page are the abstracts for this important issue of TLD. Three
of the articles were available for workshop participants to download:
Munson, Edwards, and Beckman (2005) [4778.59KB],
Rvachew (2005) [3484.81KB] and Williams (2005) [3075.72KB].

NOTE:
As previously advised, the three articles mentioned above were available for a limited period only. They were huge PDF files containing scanned copies of the articles. They were removed on May 6 2006 because they were taking up too much of my allocation of megabytes and I needed the space. If you attended the workshop and need a copy of any of the articles please email me.

Workshop content

We may all enjoy problem-solving, but children with very poor speech intelligibility and complex difficult-to-analyze speech production issues can pose extremely demanding diagnostic, intervention, and information sharing challenges for all Speech-Language Pathologists.

This workshop is about working with such children and their families.

It will concentrate on developments this decade in the classification, diagnosis and management, of Childhood Apraxia of Speech and Severe Phonological Disorders.

Learning objectives

At the conclusion of the event the participant will be familiar with:

  • Current issues in the classification, assessment, and differential diagnosis of severe speech sound disorders in children.

  • A range of therapy approaches, procedures, activities and resources for Childhood Apraxia of Speech and Severe Phonological Disorders.

  • Recent practical, clinical applications of research into goal and target selection, stimulability training, and generalization.

  • The responsibilities of child, family and clinician in the therapeutic engagement.

Presenter

Caroline Bowen PhD is a Speech-Language Pathologist in private practice in the Blue Mountains outside Sydney, Australia, and serves as an Honorary Associate in Linguistics at Macquarie University.

In an uninterrupted career that has spanned over 38 years, her workload has developed into an enjoyable mix of hands-on clinical practice, research and writing.

Current interests include child speech, family centered practice, clinical applications of information and communication technology, and being on both the giving and receiving end of continuing professional education. MORE
