Decision Tree: Which treatment approach to use?
Dr Peter Flipsen Jr developed this decision tree to share with clinicians to help them in deciding whether the best therapy for a child might be primarily phonetic or primarily phonemic.

This is a very helpful article, included here with the authors' permission, about the differential diagnosis of childhood apraxia of speech, and its early management.

4b. Williams 2002 correction  PDF
Barlow, J. A., & Gierut, J. A. (2002). Minimal pair approaches to phonological remediation. Seminars in Speech and Language, 23, 57-68.

The article, 4a, is about conventional minimal pairs therapy, maximal oppositions therapy, multiple oppositions, and empty set. There are a couple of errors in the multiple oppositions section of the Barlow & Gierut article above. Be sure to read the Williams (2002) correction, 4b, too!

Hello!
The files in this section are an expanded version of a Short Course called Phonological intervention:  It’s about time  that Lynn Williams and I presented at the 2004 ASHA conference.  Lynn presented on preschoolers and I presented on school-aged students. I am in the process of shaping the presentation into a book, tentatively titled A Quick Reference Guide to Late Acquired Sounds.

The files are the completed or nearly completed-- parts of the book.  You are welcome to use the resources in the files as you will, including copying exercises, etc.  I would appreciate hearing from you if you find things of interest or have suggestions and criticisms.

I hope you find the information useful.
